The challenge
Increasing the budget in Google Ads seems straightforward, but the reality is often disappointing: as soon as you increase the budget, the ROAS drops. Google's algorithms look for volume and will then target less efficient visitors.
This account had potential, but the campaigns were not ready for scaling. Tracking was not fully correct, the campaign structure was suboptimal, and there was no clear strategy for scaling without losing efficiency.
Our approach
Over 30 days we scaled this account profitably step by step. No shortcuts, but a structured approach that works.
1. Getting tracking & values right
This is always the first step. You can only steer well when you have reliable data. We checked all conversion actions, removed duplicate measurements, and ensured that conversion values were passed correctly to Google. Without correct tracking, the algorithm steers blind — and that costs money.
2. Scaling on winning campaigns & segments
Not all campaigns perform equally. We analysed which campaigns, ad groups, and audience segments delivered the best ROAS and specifically increased the budget on those winning components. The weaker performers received less budget or were paused.
3. Tightening search terms, exclusions & feed
A common mistake when scaling is forgetting to filter. More budget also means more irrelevant search terms that cost money. We thoroughly analysed the search terms report, added irrelevant terms as negative keywords, and optimised the product feed and ad copy for higher relevance.
4. Increasing budget step by step
No big jumps — that disrupts Google's learning process. We increased the budget in steps of a maximum of 15–20% per week and kept strict watch on the ROAS targets. At each step we waited for stabilisation before the next increase.
The results
After 30 days of aggressive but controlled optimisation:
- ROAS: 401.52% — an increase of +265.14% compared to the previous period
- Conversion value: $7,980 — an increase of $6,850
- Spend: $1,990 — $1,160 more than the previous period
- Purchases: 124.97 — +100.95 additional transactions
More budget AND higher ROAS — that is the result of scaling the right way. Not blindly increasing, but systematically building on proven performance.
